On Bad Service

We were craving for Japanese food so we decided to try out Akira at Shang East wing. We heard it was good based from the feedback of my aunt who ate there 3-4 times during her 3 week visit. We were excited to try their bento due to her recommendation.

Taking into consideration that it was the day before Christmas we called up the restaurant to make sure it was open. We were happy to find out that they were open so we made a reservation for a party of six. Apparently there was no need to make a reservation since there were only 2 tables occupied when we arrived so it was easy to get seated. Everything was going as planned until....

#1: It was tough to get the attention of the servers taking into account that there were only 3 tables occupied. Instead of paying attention to their customers they were busy talking to each other and ignored us. I know it is almost Christmas, but please do your job!

#2: When a server finally approached our table, my sister asked "Anong tempura yung sa bento?" and guess what the waiter replied? "Tempura". So my sister had to restructure her question to, "Anong klaseng tempura?" But wait there more! My mom asked, "Anong meron sa bento?" and he answered "Lahat!". WTH Panira ng trip talaga.

#3: After we discussed what we wanted to order when we looked up, the server was gone and was chatting with his fellow server. A server is also known as a waiter so how come he did not wait? GRR.

We could not stand the bad service and decided to leave the restaurant. On our way out, we passed by a server and mom said, "Aalis nalang kami kasi mag oorder na sana kami pero umalis na yung waiter at pahalang pang sumagot". Then we stepped out of the restaurant.

We ended up eating in Sumosam to satisfy our Japanese craving. Nearing the end of our meal, a waiter from Akira approached us and apologized again for the incident earlier. Stalker mode alert! He also mentioned that the bastos waiter was outside and he would like to apologize too to which my mom just said no na just talk to him. As a pampalubag loob, they gave us complimentary dessert. Bumabawi?

This was the first time we walked out from a restaurant. And I would do it again if ever I will encounter bad service. We are paying customers and we do not deserve impolite servers. Good call!

On Brownies

Today was the baby shower for Kuya and his wife. There was a pastry corner care of the mom of kuya's wife. It featured red velvet cupcakes with a pregnant topper, soft yema balls and  chocolate brownies. My aunt asked to get dessert for her so I got 2 yema balls and 2 brownies. She ate the yema balls and liked its taste and soft texture. I did not know that she was not allowed to eat the brownies due to health reasons. So I ate them. It was too sweet for my taste buds.

No wonder why my taste buds reacted that way. Brownies = chocolates! And I haven't eaten nor drank any form of chocolate for 32 days! Crap. It totally slipped my mind. Only a week left before Easter and then this. :( It was unintentional, but still.... :(

Oh well towel. Whats done is done. I will still continue to abstain from chocolates til lent and pray the rosary (without sleeping) as an alternate for eating chocolate.

Seven more days and I can try out this Magnum that everyone is raving about.

Tick Tock

What would you do if you find out that the clock is about to stop ticking?

Maximize March.

Thus the impromtu dinner at Lie Ching. This time we made it on time. Finally, I was de-virginized by their Chinese food! Spareribs, hakaw, chicken feet, ravioli soup, soy milk! You name it, delicious! Bundat gallore! We were the ones who closed the restaurant. :) Afterwards, like what happened previously when we our stomaches are full... never ending laughter.

Did I mention that we had tons of kamote cue for merienda?

Next stop...

Thursday Night

We were supposed to eat in this Chinese resto in GH but when we arrived it was already closed. To bad I wasn't de-virginized. So we headed to Q Ave for Kabab. It took us around an hour and a half and like only 30mins to eat. I guess we were that hungry.

Afterwards, we were supposed to go to this comedy bar since my officemate had this stub. We were excited to see Booba, but too bad it wasn't a free stub, it was a discount stub. So, headed to my place nalang for WIInuman.

Quotable Quotes:
Pe-ti-TE!
Pi-pe La-ying!
Patay na si Pope John Paul?!?

I guess that is the effect of the food.

The night ended early because nagbrownout while watching AI! Ayos lang, it was a Thursday!

Masarap ang Libre!

PJ

My cousin from Chicago was here for the past few weeks. It is his first time here. He is an American Citizen but then again, he is pure Filipino. Weird? Well, thats him.

1. Food trip
At first we brought him to various restaurants, but it turned out that he is easy to please. He'd eat anything and everything... just not mangoes. Number one on the list: C2 = two piece chicken with extra gravy please. :) JOLLIBEE is his closest friend.. he is so JOLLY and it makes him smile

2. Paintball

It was my second time to play. It was kinda expensive... 500 bucks for 100 bullets. But no regrets. Who would have thought that shooting people would be super duper fun?

3. Trips

Went to Boracay with the Jimenez clan... Cunanan, Siwa, Jimenez, Mercado. And guess what? Even Lolo came! We weren't complete though, nevertheless we had innocent fun ;)

4. Clubbing
Embassy, Warehouse 135, Alchemy... plus other places in Timog. Yeah, that kid is so sociable. He lives to party. 'nuff said.

These are some of the stuff we did during his stay. Not really though, I missed out on the other stuff... like the ghost hunting at the film center -- he is a scaredy cat, second round of paintball -- he is the favorite of the guy who manages the place, more clubbing and drinking -- he drinks WAY too much!, more eating aka saisaki -- he really has a HUGE appetite, bowling, malling but then again, I had my own fun in the Visayas. Well that is another story to tell, this is about PJ who is one huge crazy kid stuck in a macho body with a beer belly.

'Til lext time. Remember, stay out of trouble, behave, do not talk to strangers. :)

Rock and Roll!

Deli's

For the pass two Fridays I found myself having dinner in Delis.

thinks... what is a Deli...

With the help of Wik!pedia...

Reference works state that the word delicatessen comes from German Delikatessen, and that this German word is the plural of Delikatesse, which in turn comes from French delicatesse and means "delicious things (to eat)". The word delicate is recorded in Latin as delicatus, with the meaning "giving pleasure, delightful".

An alternative (although wrong) popular etymology supposes that the -essen part of the word is in fact the German word essen (= English: to eat, German: das Essen = English: the food). This would mean that the word is a portmanteau of the German words "delikates" (delicious, nominative case) and "Essen". "Delikat essen" (with delikat as an adverb) is also a comprehensible phrase in itself in modern German, meaning "to eat delicious things".

Anyway, moving on... last Friday I was in Swiss Deli and Bistro. My colleague's band had a gig there and coincidentally, one of my closest teammate from college wanted to hang out. To hit two birds with one stone, I suggested to have dinner at the Deli along Pioneer and Sheridan St, Mandaluyong City. We did not have a difficult time finding the place, with my "research".

The ambiance was nice (for a lack of my vocabulary). It had a homey feel. The Deli offered many products... from hams, sausages, beef and other authentic ingredients they utilize.

When we sat down, they served us with "complimentary" bread. We got a Caesar Salad --- super filing, Raviolli in Tomato Sauce and some Sausage dish --- forgot the name, decided to get this cause it looked like Sausage dishes were their specialties. For dessert we got heavenly truffles! *yum* I do not know why, but I enjoy Swiss/Belgian or whatever you call those chocolates with description. I guess it adds a little excitement... It was great. We were so stuffed. Good value for our money.

Sidenote: I feel kinda guilty tho that I wasn't able to watch my officemate sing.. but in fairness, I heard her sing. :) I wanted to shout like how a typical "groupie" would react, but I still have my manners... then again, maybe I chickened out because I was shy and that I might make a fool out of myself.
---
Awhile ago, I had my second Deli experience. A friend of mine invited me to have dinner at Galileo Enoteca. I had no idea what kind of restaurant that was, so since I sit in front for like 8 hours, I decided to research on it to avoid any humiliation.

The real thing did not fall short based on what I saw online. The place had an Italian theme and I felt I was in a totally different place. I am not good with words and bad with describing, so I suggest you go to their Mandaluyong or Makati branch to see it for yourself. :)

Let me go to the food instead...

I think in Deli's they really serve bread... (sorry naman...) It had three dips along with it: pate, tomato salsa and this green thing (balsamic) swimming in olive oil (forgive me for not knowing what it is called). Then we got a feeling healthy garden salad and mushroom risoto along with our chilled white wine. The salad was tasty while the risoto looked like sticky rice. It was heavy. But of course, we had space for dessert... Gelato After Eight -- a mint and chocolate gelato cake with chocolate bits. It was soooo good like O.

We paid already, but guess what... there was more! They gave us this dessert wine. I do not know what its called --- it was a light white wine with a fruity taste. But man, ang lakas gumuhit ... like traitor margarita. (hahaha hirap na hirap mag explain) I thought that was all, but lo and behold... they gave us this thicky velvety hot chocolate! It was just right. Not too bitter and not too sweet! Panalo!

So there, ang haba na nito.

Hmm, whats next kaya?

Hehehehehe

Weekend Update

FRIDAY
Originally I planned to leave the office by 6PM.. around 630PM would be the latest supposedly in order for me to catch my 7PM dinner. Then again, I left the office at almost 7PM! Why do they have to plan meetings on a Friday?

Luckily I was able to catch up despite the circumstances. I followed them to this Japanesse coffee shop named UCC (Ueshima Coffee Company) Coffee in Podium. When I arrived they already ordered. Habol nalang ako. I got myself this Chicken Terriyaki Big Plate. The serving was huge and there was a cold salad included. It was very filling! Afterwards, we got this thick toast with chocolate syrup and whipped cream for dessert. I forgot what it was called. Pasensya naman, pagod ako galing opisina.

Too bad my aunt had to go back to the hotel abruptly cause her acidity acted up. Then again, maybe butterflies were circling in her stomach cause the Bishop who was scheduled to marry her the next day informed my other aunt that he could not make it. There was a mix up. Bishop thought that the wedding was in the morning so he blocked the whole morning instead of the whole afternoon. Ayay! As an alternate, a priest who recently finished his "priesthood" schooling would be the one to "unite" them in their church wedding.

We followed my aunt in hotel, danced a little ballroom and exchanged stories before sleeping.

** end of story... to tired.. i mean tamad to continue...
